The Golden State and wine go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s no secret that California produces delectable, rich and irresistible wines that are among the best of the best. In fact, if California were a separate country, we would be the fourth largest wine producer in the world!
With so much bubbly goodness within arm’s reach, it’s only appropriate that an entire month be dedicated to swirling, sniffing and sipping the juice of the vine. The month of September, or as we prefer to call it, California Wine Month, is filled with everything and anything having to do with the delectable drink, including: special tastings, festivals, concerts, wine and food offerings and more.
As another California Wine Month draws to a close, we decided to explore the best wine cellars throughout the state (not an easy decision!), to keep the celebration going year round. Because let’s face it. One month simply isn’t enough. Let’s call a spade a spade and rename the celebration “California Wine Year.”
This family-owned winery specializes in handcrafting wines from historic vineyards in Napa Valley. Known across the region for its high-end single-vineyard Cabernets and its rustic-chic, barn-like tasting room, Alpha Omega is a must not miss along Highway 29.
A small, family-owned vineyard in Mendocino County, Navarro Vineyards offers an intimate, relaxing experience for your wine tasting festivities. You can tour the vineyard year-round as you observe the changing vines and all the wildlife that surrounds the area. End your day by enjoying a glass of wine paired with local cheeses and meats.
Jamie Slone Wines
Serving the best premium wines from vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County, Jamie Slones Wines is the place to go if you’re looking to get the ultimate taste of the “American Riviera.” The winery offers a selection of Red Blends, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rose, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay wines.
Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard
Specializing in European-style, food-friendly, cellar-worthy wines, Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard has been producing some of the best wines in the region since 1975. Make sure to try out the winery’s Pinot Noir that has aged beautifully for over three decades.
One of the oldest and well-known wineries in Temecula Valley, Callaway Vineyard is a high-tech winery equipped with grandeur wine stations in the tasting room. In addition to the large selection of wines, you can also grab a bite to eat at the winery’s Meritage Restaurant.

A family-owned winery in Placerville, Lava Cap Winery offers daily complimentary tastings of their red and white wines that you can enjoy as you bask in the beauty of El Dorado County. This is the perfect spot for those who enjoy the country look and feel.
Michael David Winery
The 750 acres of vineyards of Lodi’s Michael David Winery produce outstanding wines that any wine lover can appreciate. The winery may be known for its wines, but it’s also home to a café, retail store focused on seasonal gourmet produce and an award-winning bakery.
