We all know smart homes are one of the hottest trends in the real estate industry. How could they not be? The world we live in is centered on technology more than ever so it only makes sense that homes would incorporate the latest gadgets into their designs as well.
But what exactly does a “smart home” mean? Does it have to be the home of the Jetsons with a robot maid or does simply having an iPad app for your lights or an automatic thermostat make your home “smart”? Coldwell Banker and CNET have answered this question and come up with an actual definition that puts all those doubts aside.
“Smart home: A home that is equipped with network-connected products (aka “smart products,” connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or similar protocols) for controlling, automating and optimizing functions such as temperature, lighting, security, safety or entertainment, either remotely by a phone, tablet, computer or a separate system within the home itself.”

Beauty & Brains
This Pacific Palisades home has it all – from its interior and exterior beauty, breathtaking views from the Queens Necklace to Palos Verdes and downtown LA, to its latest smart home technology.
A distinguished smart home system, the Crestron, is installed throughout the estate and controls and fully automates all the lights and flat screen smart televisions. Also on the automated system? The sliding doors downstairs, the pool and the garage and gates.
And that’s not all, the home also has a fully automated sound system where you can listen to different things in different rooms.
How cool is that?
This Ronchetti oceanfront bluff-top home offers all the amenities your heart can desire – a chef’s kitchen, gorgeous bedrooms, media area, workout room, a glass staircase and ocean views throughout.
In addition to these awesome features, two smart home systems– Lutron and Savant, make this a house of the future. The systems allow you to control the lighting in the home via wireless technologies i.e. iPad or phone. The drapes and shades can also be lowered and raised automatically to your liking. For entertainment, the major television centers in the home are accessed thru the Savant system and wireless devices. And for security, the smart home technology accesses the onsite security cameras and displays the areas on various televisions in the home.
The smart technology doesn’t stop there – the roof of the home is equipped with photovoltaic solar panels and solar hot water for you to keep up with the latest solar trends.
